I think we all share a surprise at the new Ikea catalog and how can Ikea say that only the non designers will notice changes. I believe that everybody notices bad typography it is just that us as designers distinguish it and feel a deeper impact by bad visual data. Normal people are too used to it and filter it out, but we get that feeling in the back of the head every time we go by and see it. I’m just hoping that Ikea will not actually go down this path…

We had our first Typography practice lessons today. A good enough reason to be really frustrated. They totally f*cked everything up. The last ounce of creativity that could be there was stripped away by 50 or more examples of what we must NOT make. No type that is too square, none that is too high, the ascending line between A must not be too low, it should not be bold. Then she said ok we will be doing CLASSIC either TIMES or ARIAL linear, like even if you wanted to do something different you can’t. Fcuk like the only lessons that I thought would be good this semester and they killed even those. Thanks university for killing the creativity in me.

Wuhu, so the Denmark trip is still going on. We just got back from the north side, a town called something simmilar to Skeen, Aarhu and Aarbolg or kind of like that, don’t really know all the Danish cities we visited, but they were quite nice. On the most north part we visited their nice beach with the sand dunes and some vegetation. It was really f****** cold and windy and cold and windy, oh and did I say it was cold. But it had a beautiful view on the Baltic sea and on the other side it was the Atlantic ocean. Still I wouldn’t go swimming in this weather, but I can imagine being it really nice in the summer time for some relaxing and doing nothing on the beach.

Our next stop was the desert in the middle of nowhere, and it was said that it moves for around 9m each year in North or well some direction. So you need to make sure where it is as one day it could end up in Germany or well Sweden, don’t really know which way its going. Oh, we also saw big ass, huge Windmills that went Swoosh, Swoosh, Swoosh when you are standing at the bottom. Reaaaaly cool feeling. On the way back the second day we also stopped in Horsens and K-Block and said hello to some of Peter’s friends. Well that’s what happened in the last few days.

Loads of pictures, well they were added to the previous batch at My Denmark Flickr photostream. And a few with this post for the feeling of cold and wind we had.

The ocean can lead you to a bright new world.

As I’ve been to Denmark before it still looks the same. Looooots of bricked buildings, simplistic blocks of flats without curtains, green fields of grass everywhere and the Denmark flags lurking everywhere. Its quite cold an windy and so far we’ve seen Copenhagen and settled down in Kolding where we’ve gone for a nice walk around the town and down to the sea.

Its also really rare to see the Sun these days, well people say it takes months to see it sometimes. We had quite some luck today as half of the day was really sunny. Lucky us. It also snowed a bit. But still. SUN. Really, in Denmark.

Anyway some pictures for a feeling, more on my Flickr Denmark Photostream. Enjoy the fog at home. (Oh, do write what you think of the mushrooms if you find them.)

So during the Animateka Festival they also organized a two week workshops to learn Classical Animation and Stopmotion Animation. I attended both ’cause I thought it would be a nice experience and to bring some fun away from University.

The whole workshop was a great introduction to animation. The mentors Grega Mastnak (Bizgeci) for Classical and Špela Čadež for Stopmotion were really helpful with pointing out the mistakes and how it is properly done. I recommend anyone who wants to have a quick go and try animation to see if he likes it to try the workshops out. They’re really fun.

The Classical animation, hand drawn, around 60 A4 sheets drawn.

The Stop motion animation, done in a group of 3. Every member made one animal and then we animated them together. Katarina Kos made the Mole, Saba Skaberne the Kangaroo and I made the Squirrel.
